Project C694FWT – Progress Update

The work on the car has been ticking along steadily in the background – not always glamorous, but definitely moving in the right direction.
First Start on the DCOE Carb
The biggest win recently is that the car now runs on the DCOE carb. I haven’t yet plumbed in the permanent fuel lines, so I did the initial testing using a small bottle of fuel. Despite that, it fired up nicely. The idle mixture and idle speed are tuned correctly, and it’s jetted where it should be – a satisfying moment after a lot of fiddling.

Bodywork and Paint Progress
All welding is now completely finished, and the car has been prepped for paint. The front end is now fully resprayed. Due to the tight working space in the shed, I need to turn the car around to paint the rear – which, as anyone who’s done this knows, is a massive pain. But it’s the reality of working from a small home workshop.
The paint itself has turned out pretty well. Obviously, it’s not concourse – it’s a DIY respray over mostly old fibreglass panels – but it looks fresh and really lifts the overall appearance.

About That Hole in the Bonnet…
Yes – there’s a hole in the bonnet.
To fit the DCOE and the top-mount throttle cable assembly, a section of the bonnet had to be cut. To deal with that, I’ve designed and 3D printed a custom bonnet scoop. It’s made in four sections, bonded together, then finished with polyester filler and several coats of paint. I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out and it should be fitted soon.

What’s Next?
There’s still a decent list of parts waiting to go on, including:
- Polycarbonate windows
- Passat B3 front calipers
- New fuel pump
- Full-length fuel line

Getting closer now to seeing C694FWT back on the road – it’s starting to feel real.
